Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who is eligible for the SAH program?

Australians aged 65 and over are eligible for the Support at Home program or those aged 50 and over who are ATSI or are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

  • How do I access the Support at Home program ?

The first step is to register with My Aged Care by contacting them on 1800 200 422 or by visiting  www.myagedcare.gov.au. If you’re eligible, My Aged Care will arrange for you to be assessed to determine the level of support you require based on your specific needs, such as your health, mobility and personal circumstances.

  • How much will it cost?

You will only pay a contribution for the services you have received. Contributions rates are determined by your financial position as per a Services Australia means test and the type of services you receive:

    • Clinical services such as nursing and allied health are fully funded by the government, and no contribution is required.
    • Independence services such as personal care and social support require a moderate contribution ranging from 5-50% of the total cost depending on your individual means test.
    • Everyday Living services such as general house cleaning and gardening attract the highest contribution rate ranging from 17.5-80% of the total cost depending on your individual means test.
  • What if I can’t afford to pay the contribution rates?

You can apply for financial hardship through Services Australia. If your application is successful, the government will waive some or all your contributions.

  • Is IAWA committed to providing safe and quality care?

Yes, our managers and staff participate in regular mandatory training and hold the necessary formal qualifications relevant to their individual role. In accordance with Aged Care legislation, all people involved in the provision of services either directly or indirectly including Board/Committee Members, Management, Staff, Contractors and Associated Providers must meet strict screening requirements.

  • What can I do if my care needs change?

On commencement with IAWA Home Care you will be assigned an individual Care Partner who will work with you to design a care plan that meets your assessed needs. If your care needs change, your Care Partner will support you in exploring options to ensure you continue to achieve your wellness goals.
